Tennessee's WBIR reports that two firefighters from Knoxville, Tennessee have been charged with driving under the influence in unrelated traffic incidents. Both cases happened to come before the Sessions Court of Knoxville on the morning of Wednesday, April 23.
Captain Edwin Ault, a firefighter since 1988, was arrested by Knoxville Police after a January 31 accident.
According to affidavits, Ault was trying to turn when he slid into a car waiting at a stop light on roads that were slick from rain. Ault was arrested for DUI by a KPD officer. No injuries were reported in the crash.
According to the arrest warrant, the arresting officer smelled alcohol on Ault's breath and asked how much alcohol he had consumed. Reportedly, Ault answered "too much."
This is the third time Ault has been arrested for DUI. His arrest record shows that he also received charges in 1980 and 1983.
On January 6, Knoxville Senior Firefighter Brian Cowan was arrested on a DUI charge.
According to his arrest warrant, an officer of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said that his eyes were red and bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test. According to the incident report, it is his first offense. He entered a plea of guilty on Wednesday morning.
